Head Coach Monica Hilcu

Monica grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and learned to row as a walk-on athlete at Purdue University. After graduating with a degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering,  Monica moved west to California and worked for Oracle Corp, and started coaching at Serra High School with Larry Kahle. In 2006, she joined Jeff Nalty at Stanford Rowing Center which later became Redwood Scullers. Monica lives in Redwood City with her husband and two daughters, who of course do not row, and her dog, Kabuki

Coach Teresa Hashiguchi

Teresa learned to row at Redwood as a high schooler and continued on as a coxswain during college. She has coached with Redwood since 2013. Teresa has enjoyed giving back to her team since then and continues to be amazed at the incredible athletes who graduate from the program.

Coach Joshua Hoidn 

Josh first started rowing at a “Learn-to-Row” summer camp at Los Gatos Rowing Club before joining LGRC in his Sophomore year of High School. He helped qualify the V8 for Nationals his Junior year. For college, he was recruited by Gonzaga University where he rowed all four years. He graduated with a degree in Business concentrating in Marketing and Management Information Systems. His full-time job is with Aeva as a Customer Support Engineer. Josh started coaching at Redwood part-time in December 2020. He has helped coach all levels of the program during his time with the team. He continues to be amazed with how outstanding these athletes are that come through the program and looks forward to seeing where they take this team in years to come.

Coach Claire Scannell

Claire started rowing with Redwood Scullers starting in 8th grade and continued through senior year. She graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Communication Disorders and taught Kindergarten in San Carlos for 2 years. She is now working on her master’s degree in School Psychology. She has been coaching since 2021 and she has enjoyed every minute of it with the incredible athletes at Redwood. In her free time, she loves to spend time with her family and friends. She is looking forward to what great things the kids will accomplish this year!

Coach Janet Bellantoni

Janet has been rowing and coaching for over 30 years, including coaching men and women at all levels (elite, club, masters, college, and juniors). She enjoys working with all athletes, from brand-new rowers to seasoned competitive masters. She is currently an assistant coach for the nationally-ranked Redwood Scullers junior team and the Technical Director of the venerable Twin Donut Rowing Club. She has coached at Craftsbury since 2016. Janet learned to row at the University of Rochester in 1986, where she served as team captain and stroked a gold medal eight at Eastern Sprints. After college, she trained at the U.S. National Lightweight Team training center in Boston while attending selection camps for the US lightweight 4-. During this time, she earned medals at the Lucerne Regatta, World University Games, Elite Nationals, Head of the Charles, and Canadian Henley. She remains an active master’s rower, with recent wins at the Head of the Charles, the Heineken Roeivierkamp, and the San Diego Crew Classic. Her current home club on the west coast is the Bair Island Aquatic Center (BIAC) where she serves on the Board of Directors.

Boathouse Volunteer George Duesdieker

George is a third-generation San Francisco native but only found rowing in 2004 when his eldest daughter began rowing at Stanford Rowing Center. After his younger daughter began rowing in 2008, George picked up an erg handle and then an oar, and has been rowing ever since. The younger daughter went on to row at UC San Diego. George went to the University of San Francisco (B.S. 1977), and then went to law school at the newly re-named UC Law - San Francisco (J.D. 1980). He practiced law prominently as in-house counsel at Sprint and later independently represented plaintiffs in employment cases. Besides enjoying time with his wife and family, George enjoys rowing, boathouse volunteering, and being pickup truck haver for the team.
